For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

Observation: The writer of Hebrews puts all the stock in Jesus! With Jesus we can go right into the presence of God boldly asking and trusting Him for everything. It is only Christ blood that can make us clean and pure!

Application: Jesus is the best filtration system there is! We need not go anywhere else to be purified and cleansed….Jesus opens the curtain to the Holy Place and filtrates our lives with His blood. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

Observation: Paul's exhortation is to celebrate God everyday. And let everyone that you meet know that you are on their side, working with them and not against them.

Application: This seems like the easiest thing to do, but yet our human nature fights against it. We have a hard time celebrating what the Lord has done and continue to do in our lives. We also fight against others thinking there are going to get one up on us. However, we must not do this. We must continue to show them that Jesus is about to arrive and the he could show up at any moment.

Prayer: Lord, I ask for forgiveness. I have not heeded Paul's exhortation to always celebrate Jesus everyday and encourage others as He would everyday. I am rich and full of life, yet can be the most prideful person. Forgive me…it is all about you and telling people that the Lords return is near. Paul urges us to take heart to this fact and be more than conquers!

Application: Sometimes I forget that Christ love is ever present. When things seem to be going the wrong directions, the attacks come in, and it seem like all heck is breaking loose, I tend to forget about Christ's love! These people that He was talking about where saying the Lord is coming back, so why work? They had refused to work expecting handouts and had not listened to Paul's previous letters. Paul wanted then to work night and day so that they would not be a burden to one another. He wanted Christians not to freeload and become lazy!

Application: Paul tells it how it is! We must be a people to do not put up with other Christians who are disobedient to Christ. We must not hang around them! This is hard for us to grasp but it only hinders the work of God if we do. Also we are told to work hard, so we do not become a burden to others. The gospel must be preached with actions! He allowed the blind to see, the lame to walk, the lepers healed, the deaf to hear, and the dead to be raised to life, and the good news preached to the poor, so that John would be strengthened in His faith. And then He make the last statement so that John's faith would increase in jail and that He would continue to preach repentance and turning toward Jesus!

Application: Often Jesus is very concerned about individuals. He will do miracles and unforeseen things to strengthen the faith of His children. However, I believe that often I do not receive or recognize what He is doing. Perhaps I am to busy, distracted, or just plain don't want to listen and I find myself asking the same question John does over and over. 'Are you the Messiah that the does miracles and changes lives? Or should we expecting someone else?" God answers us all the time…we just need to recognize He is still in the miracle business and is doing it impart to strengthen our faith.

Prayer: Lord, help me not be so distracted to see your work and miracles being accomplished right before my eyes. Forgive me for not having faith that you are who you say you are. I desire to see what Matthew 11:4 states. Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

Observation: It is not a shock to Paul that there are those who disguise themselves as God's workers but they are far from it. They are only there to destroy and manipulate people!

Application: There are so many people that say they are God's workers, but in reality they are wolves in sheep's clothing. In every church there are those people who want to tear and destroy. The Corinthians probably had more than their fair share of those people and they love to meddle! Satan is the author of this and we must stand against it.

Prayer: Lord I pray that the wolves in sheep's clothing at The Rock Church will be exposed. I pray that Satan's workers would be silenced and removed from you church in general. That they would be sifted out and thrown to the winepress…I ask that you help me, our leaders, and our people continue to pursue your righteousness and those who are not removed. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.

Observation: At the beginning of this portion of scripture, Paul stated that he would not be put in a group that promoted themselves. He said that the Lord would commend him if he is faithful. Paul is very careful to only boast about what the Lord has done.

Application: We too must only boast about what the Lord has done. It is so easy to try and self promote and self exhort, but that is all about us! The Lord is the one who will who will commend me. I just need to be faithful and work hard.

Prayer: Lord forgive me for the times that I try to jump the gun and promote what I have done. The selfish nature inside of me desires to self promote, but that is not godly at all. I ask that when I begin to boast about what I have done that the Holy Spirit nudges me. I want to only boast about you and the work you have done in my life and in our churches life. Help me get rid of selfish pride! God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too. 12 Are we commending ourselves to you again? No, we are giving you a reason to be proud of us,t so you can answer those who brag about having a spectacular ministry rather than having a sincere heart.

2 Corinthians 6:3 We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. 4 In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. 5 We have been beaten, been put in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without food. 6 We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us,t and by our sincere love. 7 We faithfully preach the truth. God's power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left hand for defense. 8 We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors. 9 We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed. 10 Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.

Observation: Paul in both of these passages expresses the reason they preach the Gospel. They preach not for personal profit or recognition, but to bring 'One More," into the Kingdom. It cost Paul everything to proclaim this truth.

Application: We too must preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Not for personal profit but for the Kingdom of God. There are so many people that do it for a buck or for a nice house…but Paul preached because he truly desires the Kingdom to grow! I know that taking the Gospel to the people will hurt, but if I truly believe in advancing the Kingdom it will be so worth it. Paul says they are still always joyful. The only complete and fulfilling joy comes from the Lord. We are fully responsible to the Lord, and must continue to persuade others!

Prayer: Lord, there is no greater joy than seeing the veil be removed off of people hearts so they can see your salvation. And anything we must endure of whatever it may cost, it is worth it. Paul spoke of this and I do believe that only this causes great joy. I pray that you help me keep my eyes focused on you and not the problems associated with proclaiming the Gospel. But I would be so focused on the word and salvation that problems do not distract or detour your kingdom ways! Help me be one that does not cause another to stumble and the no one can find fault with my ministry. Keep your word fresh and unveiled to me! In Jesus Name Amen!

Preach the Word

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 2:17 you see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. Amen!

Stumbling Block

Scripture: I Corinthians 8:12 'And when you sin against other believers by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ.'

Observation: Being a stumbling block involves more than just upsetting or offending someone. It is serious offenses that weakens another's relationship with Christ and makes their conscience unstable.

Application: So often we think that what we do will only affect us. But here Paul plainly states that when you sin against other believers you sin against Christ. Why? How we live, how we act, and how we represent Christ can either have a positive affect or a negative effect on another's life with Christ. That is why it is so important that we walk the talk. We don't say on thing and live contrary to it. We all have responsibility to represent Christ well and if we do not then we are in sin.

Prayer: Father, all that I say and do has an effect on who you are. I pray that the words and actions that I live would lift and edify who you are. Forgive me for the many times that I fail to represent you well, so that another might not stumble. I am flying home and cannot wait to get there to hug and kiss my wife and kids. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Global Leadership Summit in Nicaragua. The GLS is hosted by Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois. A few of their elders and staff were on the trip with me and that was awesome! The first GLS in Nicaragua was two years ago and they had 350 people there and this year there was 1000 people for leadership training. It was held at Hosanna Church with is one of the largest in Managua. This church was very different from the ones we toured with compassion.

As I reflect on the week, I went in thinking I had a pretty good grasp on poverty and the need to help fix it. I come home thinking I have no clue…but we must do a small part. I plan on working diligently to get my church involved with compassion and taking trips to Nicaragua to serve in any way we can! This will take week, perhaps months to digest and reflect what I took in. I praise the Lord that no one on our team came home sick or got sick while on the trip. We have seen some pretty devastating things the last few days…but God is still in control and He cares for the people of Nicaragua.

I did make an amazing contact with Davis Morales, an amazing Christian man. He is a lawyer, musician, sound technician, and professional basketball owner. I would not be surprised to see him speak at the GLS someday! We both are excited to see what God has in store for our connection with each other. There will be many pictures coming forth in the coming days. I will try to have a debrief session with those who would be interested. Thanks for following me in this journey. I will tell you I am a changed man and look forward to challenge others to get involved in Missions, especially with Compassion!

Nicaragua Day 3

Well greetings from Nicaragua…this is my last night here. Sorry that I have not posted until tonight. What I seen yesterday has taken me a while to process. Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in Central America behind Haiti. And yesterday I saw it firsthand. We were able to go North to a church were the rain has completely washed the streets out and the holes in them cause the van to almost bottom out. We arrived at a Pentecostal church (in which I felt at home); shortly thereafter we were instructed that we were going to go to see the homes of where the Compassion kids live. Just to remind you Compassion International works through the local church…so everything is done through and at the church. We are in the neighborhood the church is in!

So we divided into three groups where we all went to different houses. Our group had the farthest to walk and we had a heavy box of rice, beans, and oil to take to the family. As we were walking I looked around to see that the houses were in ok shape, nothing us Americans would ever live in, but to them it was a great place to raise their family. The houses are made of wood…ran down, dirt floors, no windows, and it seems that all family members live in these houses. We continued to walk and it seemed as though we were going to a more difficult run down area and we were!

We then arrived to the family of Norman to whom this child is a Compassion Child. We walked into somewhat of a steel gate which keeps the gang members out of the house at night and on the weekends. We entered the gate to find the family eagerly awaiting us. So as I continued in I saw several shed, or what we would call sheds, which we would not even put our lawn mowers in. In fact we would tear the thing down because it was so decrepit. Inside the shacks were beds that maybe had a mattress on it, there was a crock pot, and about 4 plastic dishes that the family ate with. Just so you know 4 generations of family lived in the small area. They had a wood fire going outside where they cooked and a rooster running in the yard.

I continued to walk and I heard the voice of a women being very loud. Of course my attention was drawn that way and to my shock I saw that she was locked into one of the sheds. The family described her as crazy…my heart began to pound and the thoughts were immediately taken to the bible where Jesus healed people like this. I prayed for her to be healed at the end…but did not see any significant improvement. Another teammate of ours came over and looked into her eyes in which the gal responded 'I see Jesus in you,' simply powerful for my teammate!

Quickly the Compassion director got our attention to the children…and we they told us of their family situation and how compassion helped them out. After a long discussion and seeing picture of their sponsors and hearing the dreams of Norman, which is to become a professional, I began to see a child that matters to God and should matter to us as well. No one deserves to live like this.

As an American, we take so many things for granite. We are a blessed people and have everything at our disposal and yet we complain about everything! And to see this and say that the most happy people I saw on this trip where the kids, mom, aunt, grandma, uncle in this compound. As I set here tears are rolling down my face because of the arrogance and filthy pride I have. We must be about God's business and not our own. We must follow His example and sacrifice our time, talents, and treasure so that somebody else can have that opportunity to meet Jesus.

It is an amazing story of how people all over the world are sponsoring the children in need. The impact on the families and children's lives are beyond what anyone could ever imagine. Get ready church, you are going to be adopting children from Nicaragua and we are going to make a difference in this country!

Earthquake This A.M.

Wow…just experienced my first earthquake this a.m. The bed was shaking and I was thinking what the heck is going on? Today was a whirlwind of opportunity to see Compassion International at 1st hand. We started off going to the Compassion National headquarters…this was quite the experience. We were able to see firsthand all of the work and effort that goes into making sure that every child that is sponsored is receiving the correct funding and care that is expected. Integrity is vital to an operation like this. Let me tell you Compassion is very well oil machine that is full of integrity. When you send you monies to sponsor a child…it goes to the child! Here in Nicaragua there are over 33,000 children enrolled in Compassion Projects and 26,000 of them are sponsored. They project they will have close to 100,000 children in the next few years. The need is great!

In the afternoon, we went to a Baptist Church where they have a compassion project. All of Compassion ministries is fulfilled through the local church, which get the church involved in the day to day operations. It is amazing to see…how they interact with the children. They have daily classes and they sing and play together. The elementary children only go to school from 7a.m. – 12 p.m. They then are free to roam the streets, while the parents are working the rest of the day. Also, the school does not feed them…so this presents a crisis for families. This is where compassion thrives. The start the projects in the afternoon and feed the kids. The church funds quite of the cost and then Compassion sponsors fund the rest.

The children performed a few songs for us and then read scripture…amazing. By the way 250 kids set still and pay attention during the whole service. I think we have something to learn in America! The first day we got here…we were handed a Compassion Packet to see how it operates from the stand point of a sponsor. In this packet was a name of a child, their picture, and a little about them. The one I was given was a boy by the name of Randy. I looked at the surroundings of the picture and saw that it had distinct features. Well yesterday we were at the building with the distinct features…and I had the privilege of meeting Randy. Talk about a God moment…of course I could not help but say I would be his sponsor for $38 bucks a month. He is 6 years old and his father is the only one that works. He brings in $25.00 a month. Pretty stunning to think that Randy lives on dirt floors and may get one meal a day at the project.

All this to say this…God cares about the poor, the hungry, and the lost. The question is do I? Do you? We have it so easy in America! Church it is time to rise up and see us do what we are called to do…reach 'one more!' Forgive me for grammatical errors…in a hurry but wanted to post. Be Blessed and I look forward to today!

Resurrection Power

Scripture: Mark 16:8 8 The women fled from the tomb, trembling and bewildered, and they said nothing to anyone because they were too frightened.

Observation: So Jesus is resurrected they go to the tomb and meet an angel. This angel tells them that Jesus isn't there, showed them, and then told them to go to Galilee.

Application: I would be freaked out too. Everything that Jesus had been preparing for them was now happening right before their eyes. Not only are they morning the loss of Jesus but now they are bewildered by the events of the Resurrection. I think often this is a great place to be. That when God says he will do something and does it, we are stunned…that we can't even put into words what we are experiencing.

Prayer: God I pray that there are many more moments in my life that all I can do is watch you work! Thank you for this portion of Scripture.

Nicaragua Day 2

Good Morning! This morning we will head out into the city of Managua. It is a city of 1.8 million people, and poverty is that of Haiti. Managua is also known to be a rough city. In fact one of the travel guides simply said, "Watch Your Back!" So I am looking forward to going out into the city today.

Last night as I was flying over Central America, I couldn't help but notice the thousands of little towns throughout the region. I begin to think of how small we really are and how great our God is. The reason Jesus has not come back is because there are many of His people that have not been reached. I began to realize that there are more uttermost parts of the world besides Scottsbluff. My heart began to become heavy as I continued to see small town perhaps millions of unreached people. We got a job to do church!

This morning horns are honking and cars are jam packed on roads. We will be going to Compassion International home site here in Managua to meet pastors and children. It will be a good day. Pray that I will speak the words of the Holy Spirit…perhaps even some Spanish! By the way I am staying in a Hilton Hotel…and it is amazing. Doesn't feel like I am in a Third-World country right now, but that is all going to change in a few minutes!

Just Speak

Scripture: 11 But when you are arrested and stand trial, don't worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Observation: Another teaching moment for the disciples. They were wondering what is going to happen when all the great buildings are going to be destroyed, which then prompted more questions in which Jesus answered all they had at that moment. Probably setting in amazement God make this statement, 'That you will be arrested and stand trial." And then he makes a statement…'Just say what God tells you to say!'

Application: You could almost see their faces when Jesus told them that they are going to be arrested and stand trial. I am sure many of them thought I am done; I am not following this guy anymore. But, he then follows it up with somewhat of a bold statement…at least for me I would be squirming. 'Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.' I must never forget these words. There are times when I am not for sure how to respond or even begin to speak comforting words. But the Holy Spirit will speak through us.

Prayer: Father, I desire your words not my words all the time. Forgive me for being quick to speak, slow to listen. My desire is that I would hear you more and speak your words more. As I minister in Nicaragua today…give me your words. Help me say what you want to say…In Jesus Name! The disciples were afraid of what the people would say when they took the donkeys. So they went and got the donkeys! I could only imagine what the Disciples were thinking! They are going to think we are stealing them, we could go to jail, they're going to take us out…you can almost hear them in their huddle discussing this! So they come back to Jesus…umm "what are we supposed to do if somebody ask?' Just tell em the Lord needs it!

Application: We often over analyze the situations that God puts us in. We weigh the pros and the cons and then make a decision. When in reality all we are doing is wasting time. I know for a fact that sometimes I just need to stand up and say…"The Lord needs it." And that's it! We must do what He says…that settles it. It may not make sense and others may think were crazy, but God is in control.

Prayer: Lord, may I have the courage and boldness to do what you say and not question, analyze, or stall. Just to do what you say! I am embarking on a 4 day mission's trip with Compassion International to Nicaragua. The Lord has repeatedly spoken to me about getting my passport and now I know why. About a month ago Compassion contacted me and asked if I would attend one of two mission trips they were offering. Of course was my response! I have been reading a book by Ed Stetzer called Transformational Churches. One of the chapters clearly defines that Missional Mindset has to be a key to a growing thriving church. We must care more about people than programs. And God began to stir in my heart that we must not only reach out to those in the valley but to those around the world. If we as Christians would continue to fulfill the Great Commission Matthew 28:19, we would understand that we are to go into the entire world. So I began to pray and ask God where he would have The Rock Church reach out into a third world country, wouldn't you know he is sending me to Nicaragua one month later! So I set in Houston waiting to board the plane…asking God for divine encounters and for clarity if this is where The Rock Church will do our part in fulfilling the great commission. Please pray with me that God will direct every step and conversation this week. I look forward to seeing you all very soon. I will continue to blog once a day so you can follow what is happening! But in the meeting Peter made this statement that really struck them to the core, because it fulfilled prophecy.

Application: God knows peoples hearts and he make no distinction between race, color, poor, rich, young, or old. However we have free access to God's grace just like anyone else, and it is by that grace in which we are saved if we accept it. "11 We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus."

Prayer: God thank you for Grace…grace that does not require works, but requires a submitted heart. If we did not have that we would not have anything. Thank you for allowing Peters words to help those of us who think we are not deserving or separated from you because of who we are. Your grace covers all, if we allow it to. Continue to allow the Holy Spirit to draw people just like he did the Gentiles. Also, help me make no distinctions as well…Increase my Grace! We are here to proclaim that through this man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.

Observation: After the usual readings of the synagogue…they asked anyone to stand up and bring encouragement to the church. Paul brought the best encouragement of all. He told them that Jesus is the only one who can forgive you of your sins. He was not afraid to share the greatest news of all to the religious people. When He did this many of them repented and believed in Christ Jesus and they wanted him to come back and preach some more. The following week nearly the whole town came out to hear Paul preach.

Application: We must not be afraid to share the encouraging news of Jesus. As Paul says that ‘when the Gentiles heard this, they were very glad and thanked the Lord for his message; and all who were chosen for eternal life became believers.’ We never know who might be out there that does not know Christ. We must preach, teach, and encourage them to rely on God’s grace! Preach the Word!

Prayer: God may I have the guts of Paul to stand up and encourage people to follow Jesus! Give me opportunity to proclaim Jesus to the people in this area….and because of your words may the whole city and may the whole area be changed. Give me opportunities to proclaim your Gospel. In Jesus Name Amen!

Humility is Key

Scripture: 23 Instantly, an angel of the Lord struck Herod with a sickness, because he accepted the people's worship instead of giving the glory to God. So he was consumed with worms and died.

Observation: Herod’s greatest mistake was accepting the worship for himself. Pride crept in and reaped havoc on his soul. Thus replacing God with himself and desiring the worship of others.

Application: Humility is key to any leader. If we begin to think we are better than everyone else and deserve to be worshipped, we are only setting ourselves up for the worms to eat us alive. We must always give the worship and point the worship of people to Jesus not to any human.

Prayer: Father you deserve all the glory, honor, and praise. type='text'>Protection

By Tami Lambertson

Scripture: I John 5:18

"We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin, the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him."

Observation:

God loves His kids. Just as I protect mine, He protects His. You belong to God and do not continue in sin. The evil one (satan) can bring you no harm.

Application:

God's hand of protection rests on His children. If we are walking in His spirit – longing daily for His presence – His presence will surround us, not allowing the enemy in. Attacks will come, but we will be prayed up and able to handle it. That is how He protects us. That is also how we will stay from sin.

For example, I can only offer protection to my children when they are with me. I can pull them out of harm's way when they are within my grasp. I can deflect a flying object from hitting them when I see it coming even if they don't. However, when they are out of my reach, it is impossible for me to help them. If they want my help, they have to walk next to me. Other than that, they are on their own.

God is promising us the same protection. If we want His help, we just have to walk with Him. That's why it is important not to get ahead of God or wander off. That's when the enemy has a better shot!

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank you for your promise. Thank you for your protection. Please be with me today. Guide me along the way. Bring your peace to surround our family. May we rest in your presence knowing that you are in control! Strengthen Tyson as he begins the week doing more of your work. May your hand of protection be upon our hearts, minds, and physical bodies. I love you. I am so grateful for you. In Jesus' Name.

Disobedience

Scripture: I Kings 13:26 "When the prophet heard the report, he said, 'It is the man of God who disobeyed the Lord's command. The Lord has fulfilled his word by causing the lion to attack and kill him."

Observation: The old prophet, that had deceived the man of God, by telling him a lie covered up with a so called prophecy! What is interesting is the response from the old prophet. He does not say of his own sin in deceiving him; though one would think his own conscience must smite him for it.

Application: This is shocking to me! We must obey God before we obey a human being. We God speaks we have to listen and obey, if not we can see what will happen. There are so many people that are these so called prophets, that humans would rather listen too, than listen to God himself. Also, when we prophesy, we must be careful not to lead someone astray…which happens all the time. We also must be careful who we appoint as leaders!

Prayer: God I pray that I will always listen to you first and not be swayed from your words. I ask that you help me be a man after your own heart that follows your ways. Holy Spirit draw me, lead me, and speak to me clearly, so I know whether or not I am being lied to by a so called prophet. In Jesus Name! He knows that there is a God that is there to give him eternal life if he will accept it. However he know deep down inside the repercussions of if he does not accept Jesus as his Savior. Their own consciousness accuses them. However, the righteous are full of life and courage, like a lion, because they know that their King is in control!

Application: There are many people who put on the front that have it all together, however they are running away inside from their sin. But a Lion…my favorite animal…is what the Godly people are like! They are full of bravery and courage, because God is in control. Instead, you live under the freedom of God's grace.”
Observation: What Paul is saying is that sin is no longer in control of us however it is not extinct as well, but God promises for those of us who contend for him that are living of under the freedom of God’s grace. The apostle means to say that Christians are not under the law as legalists, or as attempting to be justified by it. They seek a different plan of justification altogether: and they do not attempt to be justified by their own obedience.(Barnes)
Application: It is only by grace that we are justified. If we were to justify our sin by works, we could never attain the hours or the work ethic to cover our debts. But because of God’s grace, sin is no longer our master if we accept His grace!
Prayer: God thank you so much for your grace and love. I am so glad that I do not have to let sin be my master…but a loving God who is just and holy. Help me walk in your ways and light. Give me wisdom to share your grace and love. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused.22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.
Observation: Dr. Taylor paraphrases this and the following verse this: “Although the Gentiles had no written revelation, yet what may be known of God is every where manifest among them, God having made a clear discovery of Himself to them. For his being and perfections, invisible to our bodily eyes, have been, ever since the creation of the world, evidently to be seen, if attentively considered, in the visible beauty, order, and operations observable in the constitution and parts of the universe; especially his eternal power and universal dominion and providence: so that they cannot plead ignorance in excuse of their idolatry and wickedness.”
Application: We all know there is a God and we do not worship Him as we were created to do!. We know that He is true and loving just by seeing nature and we also can tell by the invisible qualities He possesses. However, we are a people who do not even give Him thanks. I wonder how people cannot go to the mountains, or the sea, or the valleys just in our nation and not think of God? Paul says those who argue against God’s creation and claim to be wise will become utter fools.
Prayer: God, I pray that people would look at your creation and marvel at your wondrous works. That the people that I know that try to reason with science that there is no God, that Paul’s words would somehow change their heart. Lord, grant me wisdom and insight on how to minister to these people…but more importantly let your invisible qualities draw them to a relationship with your Son. He must be a skilled engraver who can work with the craftsmen of Judah and Jerusalem who were selected by my father, David.
13 "I am sending you a master craftsman named Huram-abi, who is extremely talented.
Observation: Solomon asked the King of Hiram not just to send anybody that might have these talents. He asked for a man , that is a person of great ingenuity, who is capable of planning and directing, and who may be over the other artists. In other words Solomon was asking for the best of the best.
Application: A wise leader just does not settle for the average Joe. He must find and ask for the best. The best person is one that is capable of facilitating and training others to do the finest work. As a leader that is our goals. Simplicity with Excellence!
Prayer: God I thank you for sending the ultimate craftsman, Jesus! He has given us great insight and wisdom on life. I pray for my family, that I would become a better craftsman that can help love and cherish my family. I pray for our church, that I would become a better craftsman in facilitating growth and health amongst our people for You! But I will also give you wealth, riches, and fame such as no other king has had before you or will ever have in the future!"

Observation: Of all the things Solomon could have asked for, he asked for wisdom. He asked to have knowledge to lead the people properly! Solomon knew that he was young, inexperienced and the only hope that he had was that God would grant him wisdom. His greatest desire was to help his people!

Application: I feel a lot like Solomon. Young, inexperienced, not for sure if what I am doing is right for the future. The key to this blessing is “to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments.” Neither God, nor Moses wants to leave His people without direction or hope for the future. It should be noted that Israel is already in relationship with God; they are His chosen people. Obedience to His commands or loving Him were not requirements to belong to Him, but rather the pathway of blessing and life for those He had already chosen.

Application

I am so thankful to be in the family of God. I have come to understand that God’s moral law is to the soul of man as His natural law is to creation. It is God’s desire for me to choose life, but He leaves that choice up to me. I am learning that the blessings of God flow from an active relationship with Him where I participate by responding to the principles He established for life. I have come to understand that God’s moral code is not only written in His Book, but is also born witness to by His Spirit. My conscience, if I listen to it is able to keep me from the curses of life. Truth originates in God; the choice to live in truth and have relationship with Him must come from my heart.

Prayer

Father, I want to thank-you for the relationship I have with You through Your Son, Jesus Christ. I want to thank-you also for the truth of Your word. Help me to love You from my heart, and to walk in the principles of Your word. I so much appreciate the interactive relationship we share.

A Blessed Life

A Blessed Life

Tami Lambertson

Scripture: Deuteronomy 10:12-13
And now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Observation:
Once again, Moses is laying it out plain and simple on how the Israelites can have a blessed life. This is what God wants from them.

Application:
This is what God wants from me! I try to make things so complicated. I over-think my life, mission, service, and ministry. I feel guilty for not doing more, I worry that I'm not hearing God's voice and obeying the Holy Spirit. I just have the urgency that I'm not DOING enough. All God has commanded me to do is:
1. Fear Him.
2. Walk in His ways - know the Word and keep it.
3. Love Him.
4. Serve Him from my heart.
5. Keep His commands.
If I am LIVING like this, my LIFE will be the testimony. He will do the work. That's the way it's meant to be. My relationship with Him will be obvious to others. That's what will draw people. I need to let go of the guilt, quit trying, and let God orchestrate. I realize I'm just along for the ride, but it's so hard to let God stay in control. I keep wanting to do things and force things in my own strength.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I love you. I fear you. I try daily to keep your commands, walk in your Spirit, and obey. Forgive me for feeling guilty. Forgive me for worrying. Forgive me for trying to do things in my own strenth. Lord, I pray that you would guide my steps and direct my conversations today. As I live, according to Your plan and purpose, draw others to your grace and power. Surround me with Your presence today. If salt looses its flavor, there is no recovering it, it becomes good for nothing.

Application: As salt can loose its saltiness, so a Christian can loose its “flavor.” As salt is good for preserving meats, and making them tasty, so it is good that we be seasoned with grace, for the purifying your hearts and lives, and for spreading the taste of my knowledge, both in your own souls, and wherever ye go. But as salt if it loses its saltness is fit for nothing. If we lose your faith and love, we are fit for nothing.

Prayer: Father, I pray that I never loose flavor. As I read through the entire passage, the “If”, or contingent statements in this passage, I was reminded of our responsibility as we make a choices to the commands of God. These choices will have consequences. I realized throughout history as God has dealt with the nation of Israel they were called upon to make choices. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God states of Israel, as they were ready to enter the Promised Land, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
Application
Here in Leviticus, but also in Deuteronomy 30, there is stated the reality of our choices. From the passage in Deuteronomy I see the heart of God for His people, “…therefore choose life…” God gives His commands to His people in order for them to find life in Him. To choose otherwise has consequences, as I have found in my own life. The number of times I have said to myself, “I know I shouldn’t do this!” only later to say to myself, “I knew I shouldn’t have done that!” God’s Word is given to be a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path, but God leaves the choice up to us.
Prayer
Father, I want to thank-you for the gift of Your Word. I ask that You remind me of the power of the choices I make, and the reality of the consequences to these choices. Help me to choose the wise path.

Holiness to the Lord

Holiness to the Lord
Pastor Ken Trevithick
Leviticus 10:3

“By those who come near Me
I must be regarded as holy;
And before all the people
I must be glorified.’”

Observation

As Nadab and Abihu, sons of Aaron, approached the altar of God in an inappropriate way fire went out from the Lord and consumed them. Some have speculated different offenses to ritual. But to me, it appears that God is setting off His Holiness, and the fact that His people must take holiness seriously. It is in the Holiness of God, exemplified in His people, God wants to be demonstrated within the family of God and to the world. There is the statement, “I must be regarded as holy;” a declaration of how His people should approach Him. It is in this approach to God that we will be demonstrating truth consistent with His nature.

Application

It is important to understand the seriousness of our service to the Lord, and His commitment to a “holiness” that exemplifies who He is. It is important that I, and all who serve God remember this important principle. Some might say, “That is in the Old Testament.” But I was reminded of a similar incident recorded in the New Testament. It took place when Ananias and Sapphira attempted to lie to the Holy Spirit. I am reminded of Peter’s exhortation to “Be holy, for I am holy,” a quote from Leviticus 11:44. May we be encouraged to demonstrate His holiness as we serve Him in the world today.

Prayer

Lord, I ask that you help me to take “holiness” as seriously as You do. I invite Your reminder to my heart and mind to the importance of this reality to You.

Seek And Search
Kirk Wells
2-10-09

Scripture: Acts 17:11
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those of Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. This is the way our Christian life should be also, each one of us standing with a brother or sister, ready to lift them up when they start to weaken from the battle. And the more of us there are, the more strength we have, and the longer we can endure. God created us one for another! That’s one reason God said it wasn’t good for man to be alone. We all need lifted up at times, and encouraged!!!

Prayer;
Lord, help me to not pass by a brother or sister that needs me to stand with them and lift them up, when they are weak. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Who is like the Lord? - Pastor Ken Trevethick

Who is like the Lord? - Pastor Ken Trevethick
Exodus 15:11-13
11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness,
Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12    You stretched out Your right hand;
The earth swallowed them.
13 You in Your mercy have led forth
The people whom You have redeemed;
You have guided them in Your strength
To Your holy habitation.
Observation
As the nation Israel has just been delivered from the Egyptians by the mighty power of the Lord, they sing this glorious praise to Him. Israel had been backed up against the Red Sea and Pharaoh’s army of 600 choice chariots, all the chariots of Egypt (according to Scripture) 50,000 horsemen, and 200,000 footmen (according to Josephus). It was God’s pillar of fire that held back the army of Pharaoh, as Moses extended the rod of God and the Red Sea parted, the wind blew all night long; and in the morning Israel passed through the Red Sea to the other side. When Pharaoh’s army followed God allowed them all to enter into the passageway between the water, and when they were all in the passageway He closed the waters over them. The statement above is a declaration of how great God is in His ability to deliver from disaster.
Application
What a terrible place to be – in the midst of a disastrous situation, looking at overwhelming circumstances – I remember when I have been there. I am reminded of the words of Moses in this situation, “13And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” [Exodus 14: 13-14] The Apostle Paul says something similar in Ephesians 6, verse 13, “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” When I find myself surrounded by circumstances that seem overwhelming and hopeless may I turn to You oh Lord and be guided to Your holy habitation!
Prayer
Father, thank-you for Your precious and magnificent promises, those realities by which we can become a partaker of Your divine nature. Help me in the most difficult of times to remember You offer a place of hope and rest. I want to thank-you for Your love and the promise of deliverance from the enemy and ultimately from the world. I ask You to help me not to be afraid and to stand still; that I too might sing of Your power to deliver.

My Friend

My Friend
Kirk Wells
1-20-09

Scripture: Gen 50:15 But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brother became fearful. “Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said.

Observation: This scripture makes me think about how I used to think about the way God dealt with my past mistakes (nice way of saying sins). Once I accepted Jesus as my Savior, my life changed, life was good. Then the enemy came with torment, guilt, and regret. I just knew it was too good to be true. God was just waiting for the opportunity to take it all away, just when my life seemed to have meaning.

Application: I learned that God isn’t out to get revenge, that’s satan trying to convince me that I’m not going to be accepted by God for all the wrongs I’ve done in my life. I am worthy or He wouldn’t have created me!! God is just waiting for me, with an eagerness, to be my best friend. God wants all that junk gone, not so He can now punish me, but, so NOW I can be usable. NOW seeing truths, since the junk isn’t blocking my view. Now I can have faith in Gods future for me without the condemnation of my past. Like the ad says, “Good only at participating stores”(the stores being us of course).

Prayer: Father, help me to live out your purpose and enable me to hear only your voice. To be exalted in this circle you must be willing to follow the dictates of the Pharisees, but Jesus was not interested in their approval. Jesus was interested in pleasing God and serving His purpose and will. To be invited to one of these dinners meant that you were “in”. They could not grasp the concept of inviting the poor, the maimed, the blind, and the lame.”

Application: If I am going to follow the leadership of Jesus I must be willing to reach those the world does not consider important. Serving the group that Jesus suggested can be a very humbling experience. You are not reaching the group the world or many in leadership consider important. One might ask, “Why should I humble myself and reach those the world does not see value in?” To do this might diminish my importance in the eyes of many, especially those of importance. Generally speaking, recognition does not come to those who serve the poor, the maimed, the blind, and the lame. However, if I am going to follow Christ I must humble myself in the eyes of the world and serve with gratitude those that Jesus would serve.

Prayer: Father, thank-you for the privilege of service. I want a heart that desires to reach those You love.
